WARMINSTER, WILTSHIRE Andrew Meadows and Paul Robinson (Plate 1) Twelve denarii of the Republican period were found on various occasions in 1994 and 1995 by Mr B Green while searching with a metal detector near Cley Hill, Corsley, near Warminster. The coins were declared Treasure Trove at an inquest in December 1996. At the time of writing the disposition of the hoard has not yet been determined, but Salisbury and South Wiltshire Museum hopes to acquire it. Cley Hill camp is an univallate hill fort of Iron Age date. Mr Green also discovered three early Roman brooches which are contemporary with the coins in the same area (one Hod Hill type brooch, one Aesica type and one Colchester type). Mr Green also found a number of other Roman coins and artefacts of later date in the same general area.' These finds indicate that there was settlement on the spot probably continuously throughout the Roman period.
